God wants your Submission

Hi everyone!

Welcome to my first blog post. I'm excited that you're here!

I figured the first topic should be, what I believe to be the most important and difficult part about following Jesus; submission.

We may think of a biblical marriage or parenting when we think of submission. However, submission first starts with us, as individuals, submitting to God.

Why is submission to God so important? You might be thinking: How do I even begin to understand what that means for myself?

People in church talk about submitting to God all the time. "Give it to God, sweetie." "Let go and let God handle it." I even have a tattoo that says "Let Go, Let God" and I didn't even fully know what that meant at the time!

I find it puzzling to frequently hear these expressions without truly understanding their significance.

Jeremiah 29:11-14 says this: (I encourage you to read this slowly!)

God is telling us that He will remind us who we are if we will just go to Him. If we will listen to His words and be obedient in faith.

This isn't the only time God says something like this! In Isaiah 1:17-18, God tells the prophet Isaiah this:

Notice how all of these commands start with action verbs. Learn, seek, help, defend, and fight.

I remember reading this and thinking: "OHHHH! So submission isn't as bleak as I thought! I don't have to just sit and wait for all of life's pieces to fall together!?"

Then the Creator of all things (including you) so lovingly says "Come, let us reason together." How beautiful is that? We get to communicate and bond with God like He is our own Father... because He is! He even says He will cleanse those feelings and burdens from us. In Matthew 15:1-11, Jesus talks with the Pharisees and reminds them that they naturally began to fall back on their own beliefs of what God might say. They did this instead of actually understanding the heart of God.

This is a reminder for us who are not religious leaders. We may think we know what the Bible is saying and what God wants for us. In reality, God just wants us to serve others and seek Him first. That is when everything else we desire in our hearts will fall into line.

He doesn't want us to just seek Him once, He recommends that we are in a daily and consistent pattern of submission for our own benefit.

Matthew 11:28-29 says

"...All of you who are weary..."

Weary is defined as "feeling or showing tiredness, especially as a result of excessive exertion or lack of sleep."

Weariness comes from overexertion. From exhausting every effort and having no other option.

This is why Jesus tells us "Take my yoke (nutrition or benefit) upon you. Let me teach you...and you will find rest for your souls."

In Matthew 7:7-11, Jesus tells us to keep asking for whatever we need so that we don't resort to overexertion.

Verse 8 "For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. and to everyone who knocks, the door WILL be opened."

God is such a good Father that He will provide MORE provisional gifts than our own parents or guardians. He will provide and answer our calls at exactly the perfect time. All He wants is our submission.

A small prayer before you go <3.

Much love and God bless you and your next steps!
